Dr Kalmus provides CBT in Paignton, also serving Brixham, Torquay, Totnes & Newton Abbot in Devon.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a talking therapy that enables people to examine the way they think about themselves, the people around them and the world. It is not 'positive thinking', but helps to develop a more balanced or realistic appreciation of our situations and their consequences.
By recognising the way in which we regularly think about things, we can develop strategies to address any biases which will upset or hinder us.
CBT is also about developing ways to cope with strong feelings, to begin to feel more in control of those feelings and oneself.
CBT is also about doing things that we want to do, but feel unable to do, due to anxiety and other emotions. Most people prefer to be supported to go about this in a gradual 'safe(r)' way.
Finally, (Trauma Focused) CBT involves all the above, but also gives a structure to work through and process traumatic incidents, experiences and events from the past which continue to affect the present.
CBT and Trauma Focused CBT can integrate well with Brainspotting.
CBT is time-limited and generally involves a fixed number of sessions (average= 8) agreed at assessment.
Dr Kalmus offers a free initial telephone consultation and can provide online or telephone CBT therapy.
Please contact for further information.
